On Wednesday November 9, the Moraga School District Governing Board recognized President Shari Simon for her four years of service on the Board, and two years serving as Board president. Superintendent Burns described Simon as an advocate for students who works tirelessly to improve the district. During her tenure, Simon's passion for education and drive to do what is best for all students in the District contributed to her success as a leader. Simon was instrumental in improving student access to technology and providing a safe learning environment for students. Her colleagues on the Board said it was a pleasure to serve along side of her and thanked her for motivating them to be better Board members.

Board member Simon plans to continue her service to the District in a new capacity in the area of health and wellness.

Ban On Polystyrene In the Moraga School District

Ban On Polystyrene In the Moraga School District

Photo taken on September 13, 2016 after the Governing Board approved Resolution 17-16, Ban on Polystyrene in the MSD, supporting the JM ECO Club's request to eliminate the use of polystyrene at any District school.

Pictured above from left to right: Board member O'Donnell, Maddie H., Aislinn W., Lexi Y., Board member Severy, Emily M., Board President Simon, Caitlin M., Board VP Nickens, Ava S., Board member Obsitnik, ECO Club teacher Kim Lockett and Superintendent Burns.

On September 13, 2016, the Moraga School District Governing Board voted unanimously to ban the use of polystyrene (Styrofoam). Former JM ECO Club members presented health and environmental information and research to the Board at the September meeting and following a presentation to the Board last spring.  ECO Club students previously presented information to the JM PTA resulting in a ban of polystyrene products at JM that were once used to serve hot lunch.  ECO Club students, advised by JM science teacher Kim Lockett, are to be commended for their advocacy and making a difference for all MSD students.  A copy of the approved resolution which bans the use of polystyrene during the school day and for all groups using our facilities can be found Here.
