MSD Governing Board Election - November 8, 2016

The Moraga School District is governed by the MSD Governing Board. There are five Moraga School District Governing Board members. Each Board member is elected by the community at large and typically serves a four-year term. Board elections are held in November of even-numbered years.  The next election for MSD Governing Board members is November 8, 2016.  There will be two four-year terms and one two-year term for MSD Governing Board members on the November 8, 2016 ballot.  Persons interested in serving as a Governing Board member are encouraged to attend a school board informational meeting on July 13, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School library, 1010 Camino Pablo, Moraga, CA 94556. 

The School Board's responsibilities are to: represent the people of the district; provide leadership in the establishment of policies, and guide the governing of the school district in a manner consistent with the goals and purposes of the community, and in accordance with the State Education Code. The powers and duties of the Board include governance, executive and judicial functions. Among its many duties, the Board adopts the annual budget and approves all expenditures; establishes district policy; authorizes employment of personnel; approves curriculum, textbooks and courses of study; and makes decisions on all contracts.


Governing Board meetings are generally scheduled at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of the month at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School. 


The paperwork needed to file as a candidate for the office of Governing Board member of the MSD for the General Election to be held on November 8, 2016 is available HERE. The official filing period for Governing Board positions for the General Election on November 8, 2016, is July 18 - August 12, 2016.


Governing Board Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School Library, 1540 School Street, Moraga, starting at 7:00 PM for 2016-17.  Regularly scheduled meeting dates are:  August 16, September 13, October 13, November 8, December 13, January 10, February 14, March 14, April 13, May 9, June 6 and 13. The Governing Board voted to move the October and April meetings to Thursday night.

The November Board meeting has been rescheduled to Wed. November 9, 2016 in the JM Library.

Local Control Funding Formula

The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) is a new state funding formula, replacing the old "Revenue Limit" formula that had been in place for forty years.  A "Reader's Digest" version of the LCFF is available by clicking HERE.

Coordinating Council Meetings 2016-17

The Coordinating Council, comprised of parents, teachers, classified staff, administrators, Governing Board members and the superintendent, meets at lease four times a year to review and update the District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Meetings begin at 3:30 PM and are held in room 7 at Camino Pablo Elementary School.
